It's now just over a month until the UK release of the Wii, and less than that until The US and Japan get their mitts on the PS3, but it's anyone's guess who will rule the next videogame 'generation'. Microsoft's 360 has a year's headstart, but the pull of the Playstation brand shouldn't be underestimated. Sony's previous home consoles (lets ignore the PSP) success was phenomenal, and no other competitors sales came anywhere close in terms of sales. Lets not forget either that Sony practically invented the current games audience by attracting casual gamers. If it wasn't for PS would we even see so many 20 and 30 somethings playing games? However it does look like Sony won't have such an easy ride this time. The pricepoint is a big problem for the average gamer, and Sony have made a series of high-profile gaffes in their promotions. Meanwhile the 360 is a big improvement on the original Xbox, is considerably cheaper, and the gap in power between PS3 and 360 is much less than Sony have lead you to believe (if it's there at all). It's no secret though that I am personally going to be putting all my eggs in the basket marked Nintendo. If they succeed in their task to attract new audiences to gaming with their innovative controller (much as they have with the DS handheld) then they will be onto a winner. Factor in the fact that a lot of hardcore gamers will get a Wii in addition to the Ps3 or 360, then they might become the dominant force in gaming again. Not that any of this matters. I'm getting a Wii because it looks like the most fun, and as long as it's successful enough for new games to come out then I'll be happy.
