It's taken me long enough, but I've finally got round to seeing Pixar's marvellous Cars. Stupid people have said that simply because it didn't beat The Incredibles at the box office that means it is somehow a flop. Each Pixar film until now has beaten the others but logic suggests that this couldn't go on forever. Cars has still made muchos moolah, and more importantly is a creative success, which is all the guys at Pixar care about. Also couldn't help but notice how the trailers beforehand show how, due to Pixar and Dreamwork's smashes, CGI animations are taking over Hollywood, with every major studio making at least one. As well as a teaser for Pixar's own Ratatouille (the second collaboration with Brad Bird the genius behind The Incredibles and The Iron Giant), there were trailers for the fantastic looking Happy Feet, the disturbingly amusing looking Open Season. Disturbing why? The film stars Aston Kutcher and Martin Lawrence who are my two of most reviled stars. At once. Rounding out the trailers were a couple of possible duds- Nickelodeon's Barnyard and the highy derivative looking fairy-tale based Hoodwinked. Even if there are some misfires, it's still a mighty fine time to be a fan of animated cinema.
