Fascinating facts about Vikings.

  • Vikings lived in what is now Scandinavia, but spent much of their time traveling*. Possibly as there were so few monkeys in their homeland.
  • They lived about between 750AD to 1050. Not the same ones, obviously.
  • Vikings worshipped a variety of Gods including Thor, Odin, Keith, Loki and Dave.
  • Vikings believed if they died in battle, they would be taken to Valhalla, the warriors paradise. There would always be feasting, drinking and women. And no Weasels.
  • Viking Longboats were built of paper machier. Initially they were built of pot pouri but they kept sinking.
  • Contrary to myth, Vikings never had horns on their helmets. Most Vikings preferred to wear casual headgear into battle- such as fezes, sombreros and 'kiss-me-quick' hats.
  • Among Vikings, not having a beard was punishable by death. Eventually, due to a sharply declining population it was conceded this law should only apply to men.
  • Many Viking words are still used in the English language today- such as: freckle, moon, IKEA, land, computer and cheese-grater.
  • If Vikings were alive today, they would be really, really old.
  • You can only kill a Viking by driving a stake through their heart, or exposing them to direct sunlight or holy water.
  • Vikings invented many things such as Parliament, fishfingers, a vague sense of disappointment, hovercrafts, disco music and the colour beige.
  • Monkeys are better than Vikings. They could have them in a fight, any day

*not time-traveling, though that would be cool
